  Northern Africa: sanitation data

Northern Africa has seen a 12% increase of the population served with improved sanitation facilities between 1990 and 2004. Some 40 million more people have gained access to sanitation, one third of them in rural and the other two thirds in urban areas.

With 100% of the regional population represented, these figures can be considered as representative of the situation prevailing in this region.
