  Eastern Asia: water supply data

Between 1990 - 2004, some 213 million more people have gained access to drinking water supply in Eastern Asia (178 million in urban areas and 35 million in rural settings).

Considering the rapid demographic growth in this part of the world (there were 162 million more people in 2004 than in 1990), the percentage of population served has only increased by some 7%. In urban settings the coverage has in fact decreased by some 6% !
