  Northern Africa: water supply data

Northern Africa has seen some progress in rural areas with a coverage increase of 4% (from 82 to 86%). This corresponds to 12 million more people who have gained access to water supply between 1990 and 2004.

In the same time urban areas are serving an extra 22 million people with improved water supply. Considering that the urban population increased by roughly the same number of inhabitants, the coverage has only increased by a small 1%.
